Smart Boiler Feedwater Monitoring with Guardian IK-2000 Series

Guardian IK-2000 Series Boiler Feedwater Analyzer — full system panel Close-up of Guardian Boiler Feedwater Analyzer sensors and flow cells

When it comes to boiler feedwater monitoring, precision and reliability are critical. Even small deviations in water chemistry can cause scaling, corrosion, or foaming, which reduce efficiency and cause costly downtime.

That’s why CWC now offers the Guardian IK-2000 Series by Pyxis Lab® — a turn-key, multi-parameter analyser built to simplify and automate boiler water quality control.

The Guardian platform provides real-time data, remote connectivity, and lab-grade accuracy, helping you protect assets, optimise chemical usage, and improve energy efficiency.

Why Boiler Feedwater Monitoring Matters

The quality of boiler feedwater directly impacts efficiency, reliability, and the lifespan of the system. As highlighted in CWC’s Boiler Feedwater Monitoring Guide, proper analysis is essential for both performance and safety.

Here’s why continuous monitoring is a must:

1. Prevent Scale Formation
Dissolved salts like calcium and magnesium can form hard scale deposits on boiler tubes. This acts as an insulator, reducing heat transfer efficiency and increasing energy consumption. By continuously analysing water quality, operators can adjust softening or dosing systems before scale develops.

2. Control Corrosion
Oxygen, carbon dioxide, and low pH are the major causes of corrosion in boilers. By tracking dissolved oxygen, pH, and sulfite levels, the Guardian system allows precise dosing of oxygen scavengers and alkalinity agents, protecting your equipment from internal corrosion.

3. Avoid Foaming and Carryover
Excess total dissolved solids (TDS) can cause foaming, leading to water carryover into the steam system. This can contaminate downstream equipment and reduce steam purity. Monitoring conductivity and TDS ensures effective boiler blowdown control and cleaner, safer steam.

4. Optimise Efficiency and Reduce Costs
Clean heat transfer surfaces improve fuel-to-steam conversion efficiency. With accurate chemical control, you minimise maintenance, reduce chemical costs, and prevent unplanned shutdowns.
